Buy a cheap used car and sell it afterwards

I was in a similar situation a few years back. What I did is sell my primary car to a private party (I got $4000 more than the dealer trade-in) and I bought a 1996 Dodge Neon in good condition for $2000. Then I placed the order for European Delivery. After my delivery of my new car in US, I placed an ad and sold the Neon for $2500 almost immediately. The trick is to find a good used car for transportation that can be easily sell when you receive your new car.
The advantages are as follows:
- Get more $ for your car if you sell it privately and apply it to the new purchase
- Have one car loan
- Not loose any money (or loose very little money) on a used transportation car that is cheap and because of that easy to sell. there are lot's of dads out there looking for $2K cars to buy as their kids first car.
