Veil's web site says that it impedes the light waves of a laser gun or the light waves used to take a photograph of a license plate. Lasers have nothing to do with Radar, which is radio detection and ranging using high frequency radio waves. This whole discussion is confusing to me because the detection of radar radio waves in various frequency bands has little to do with laser detection which is near impossible unless the laser beam hits the detection unit itself.
Hand held units these days tend to be laser units, with a pretty accurate optical sight, where the officer aims at a selected portion of a single vehicle, as if sighting firearm. Radar "guns" cannot distinquish between cars that are close together, especially on line of sight from the unit because the radio beam is much wider and is not coherent waves such as found in a laser. Absorbtion of a radio wave requires far different material than will absorb light wave. BTW, metallic surfaces on the backside of headlights and parking lights make great radar wave reflectors. Some cars, for instance some Pontiac Firebirds, do not reflect as much radio energy with their headlights folded down.
