Independent Saab service Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Who is Indy?, Zach Radey, Thu, 16 Mar 2006 17:17:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
An independent Saab service place, "indy" often a Volvo and Saab place or in combination with other European cars, the point being not a franchised dealer who can do warranty work. Dealers cater to new car customers and warranty work and have a tendency to be pricey compared to a competent independent. A dealer has much, much higher overhead, nicer facilities and locations, franchise fees and that is offset by all the warranty work they are entitled to do. Meanwhile for non warranty items dealers are expensive and their parts are always at list. An independent is likely out of the way somewhat, doesn't have free loaner cars or a shuttle and sources his parts from other than the dealer when he can for better pricing.
Dealers have no conscious about over selling. Fluid changes, flushes, surpentine belts and hose replacements as maintenance, alignments every 30k and more, are fair game for an aggressive service writer at a dealer. Dealers figure you're going elsewhere after the warranty runs out anyway.
Independents find that they get more customer loyalty out of deferring maintenance and unneeded repairs and they're gonna' get you anyway, the older cars will need plenty of work all by themselves without overselling.
