Look in a couple other places before you reach a decision, because Consumer Reports is historically anti-Saab, more generally anti-Euro, and heavily pro-Japanese. The 9-3 is the most reliable car Saab's ever made and close to the top for the entire European market. The new 9-3 didn't get off to a perfect launch in '03, and I suspect CR may still be holding some of that against the current model. After all I seem to remember for new cars the rating isn't "actual reliability" it's "anticipated reliability." However, the 2.0T has been in production for for over 4 years now and has most of the major problems worked out.

Look around here too, people come to Saabnet with problems and I just don't see that many for the 9-3. Most talk here centers on Bluetooth and iPod integration, picking the right tires or wheels, and performance upgrades. For all the 9-3's on the road we'd know if there were major, consistent flaws in the design and I simply don't see it.

It's your money, but once you've been bitten by the turbo bug it's hard to go back =) Good luck with your research and don't take CR too seriously, they're good for appliance reviews but less so for cars, espeically if you see a car as more than a meer driving appliance.
