When I bought my 2003 9-3 Linear, I insisted on the old fashioned rotary knob controls rather than the auto climate since the fancier version was a sea of buttons. I think Saab got rid of the knobs altogether on the more recent 9-3, so now everyone is stuck with the buttons.
The real odd thing is that the cheapest cars have the best controls. A Cobalt's set-up, for example, is ideal - no nonsense, everything logically where it should be.
If only they kept the controls simple on Saabs as well.
But I agree - the iDrive is one reason not to buy a BMW. It really is terrible.
