9-3 Convertible Costs to Purchase - US vs IDS Scheme

Hope someone can help me. I am currently in the UK, about to move to the US for 3 years. I am looking at buying through Saab's IDS scheme and I'd like to assess that vs the costs of just buying in the US when I get there should I choose to wait a bit. The cars I'm considering are:
The 9-3 Arc Convertible 2.0TS HOT
The 9-3 Aero Convertible 2.8T V6
What would these cost in base form over there? Straight purchase, not a lease. Also, at the end of my 3 year tour, I'll be selling one of the above should I buy it. Which would be the better given the US market? I suspect that fuel consumption is becoming more of an issue over there now prices have risen, and that the smaller engined car might be preferable for resale? Also what is the consensus on Auto/Manual gearboxes over there these days? I'm currently driving a 9-5 Aero Auto, and love the gearbox, and here in the UK, the dealers much prefer the Auto boxes for resale value. Is it the same over there, or is there now a preference for a "stick" shift?
Thanks for any help!
Simon
