I'm sure you guys know more than I do in this area, but ask your self this...
1. are American cars just badly engineered, or also poorly assembled? How come Japanese cars, even those made in American plants using Japanese methodologies are so much better rated for reliability and fit and finish?

As a Saab lover who is honest enough to talk about the Empiror's new clothes, I have to say that while some of the engineering is stellar, I would link many of the failures of the Viggen and 9-3SS to less then stellar assembly. I'm not saying the Sweeds aren't hard working, smart, well intentioned etc. But maybe in this case, robotics, methodology, rules etc. have an impact.

As I understand it, the Aero convertibles are assembled by hand in the Austria plant. I also assume that while they use the same parts, they may using a different assembly ethinc... who knows :)

I just want to know if I should spend the extra bucks on the 'vert without worrying that it was assembled in a plant with a better reputation, or possibly not. I appreciate that they make BMW and Benz stuff... but then Chysler isn't my idea of well build. If those ones even make it to the Canadian market..

Anyway, I'm babbling... I believe there would be a difference in cars built in the two different plants, and one assembled by hand, the other mostly robotic.
