A little song and dance from the service department.."You need rotors 'cuz they're soft." somehow shifting the blame to the Saab folks who would dare put such an inferior part in the car to save a few dollars....
Horsepucky, or better still, boat payment, mixed in with a lot of good intentions. Saabs are just as capable of going 2-3 sets of pads per rotor as any other car. Yes rotors wear and if you try and resurface them you'll take them below spec, which is true, but this neglects the inexpensive solution, new pads and don't touch the rotors. Unless the rotors are abnormally grooved or worn unevenly there's no good reason, other than a boat payment, not to do it this way.
To be fair, the dealer is trying to reduce their exposure to iffy quality judgements and it is the *best* way to do a brake job and we all know how important our brakes are.....
