Brakes rotors are simple cast iron. The hardness is not something that is an objective. Even if cast as a nodular iron, the properties change from the first casting to the last as the inoculatant "fades". When I was a QA engineer, I checked out some first off brake drums from a new supplier. We did the typical hardness tests etc, but I thought that the castings sounded different as I handled them. Got a hammer and some rang like bells, some rang with a short clunk. So the properties in that one batch were very different in that regard. These were around 18" internal diameter for mining trucks. The largest that I worked on were around 48". I do not know if modular or ductile iron would wear better or worse that simple grey iron.
I would be interested in the effects of induction hardening of the swept surfaces. That might cause some warpage and the rotor would then need to be ground to true it up.
