I just passed 20k miles on my 2005 9-3 Linear with no problems. On the contrary, it's been a real pleasure to drive. It was one year ago yesterday that I bought it - my first Saab. Great performance for a 2.0 liter engine, great fuel mileage (28 suburban, 35+ highway), very comfortable on long trips to see the in-laws in Michigan, and, so far, very reliable. There have been debates on this board about oil changes. Saab said every 15k when I bought the vehicle, but I go with every 5k, and will continue to do so. It's a small investment for more engine and turbo longevity.
I just happened to be in a Borders this past weekend and picked up a copy of the 2006 Consumers Reports Buyers Guide and, of course, turned to the Saab 9-3ss page. The 2005 9-3 had much more in the way of above average ratings (red circles) for most vehicle systems than previous generations of Saabs, but they still rank it much below average (black circle) for "reliability." Who are they talking to?
