I also have a 2004 convertible - not sure what the second dealership is thinking but the remote top down feture is definitely there. I have had minor problems with mine. Make sure the battery in the remote has enough power - when the remote was repaired did they replace the battery too? You might try that. The second problem is that if there is anything in the trunk that is in the way of the storage area (briefcase sticking up, coat, etc.) the system senses it and the top won't go down, and there is no indication on the SID that there is a problem - the top just won't activate and go down. I always make sure the trunk is fairly clear and stuff is moved to the front of the trunk away from the top storage area.
