Based on this series of messages, I'd say that Saab needs to provide guidelines for "dealer prep" and monitor it. I "ordered" a 2006 9-3 Aero Smoke Beige Metallic on Saturday July 29, 2006 and picked it up on Tuesday, August 1. My CT dealer had to get it from one in NJ and install XM radio. When I arrived they were still working on XM and then the Salesperson drove it to a nearby carwash and returned. As he was putting on the plate I did a walk around and noticed 3 or 4 places on the hood with noticable imperfections. When I pointed his out he went inside and returned with some compound and a rag and went at it! Knowing that I would be washing, waxing, and detailing the car myself, this was not a deal breaker, but I was not happy either.

To put things in perspective, I use a local hand-wash, and after a full service wash, it takes me at least 30 minutes at home to get it up to standard. They don't use glass cleaner on the outside windows, for example.

A day after I took delivery I went over the car and found that all of the door weather stripping was dryed out and white. I spent about 30 minutes treating this to bring it back. Just last weekend I did my annual pre-winter wax job using Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax and this took care of any remaining marks on the hood or elsewhere.

Does anyone know what Saab expects dealers to do regarding dealer prep? I would expect it to be washed and detailed. It is too bad that so many are picking up $35,000 cars that are not perfect on delivery, particulary since, at least in my case, the factory has applied a really gorgeous paint job that will be revealed with a little work!
