FWIW, I bought a 2007 because I had the exact opposite impression than you. Looking at cars in the same price range as a 2.0T (a G35 is not, nor the TL, more like a base volvo S40, Honda civic SI/accord, Mini Cooper S w/ options) I found the SAAB interior to lack the overall cheap look/feel of other options. Some items are truly cheap feeling (like the thin window buttons) but the overall look and feel is solid.

To their credit, the Mini has a pretty nice interior but the dials are pretty cheap looking and the car is pretty small. Actually, I find even far more expensive vehicles to have cheap looking interiors including Audi, BMW, Mercedes...everyone is using lots of plastic and probably due to weight and mileage issues, plastic is here to stay.

I think it would be great if interior build like in the C900 were the norm (tho even that car had dash cracks, headliner sag, glove box vinyl peeling, heated seats that never worked, auto windows that scratched the glass, an awesome windsheild that unfortunately pitted quickly, and a crappy stereo), but that level of build (using much more metal etc) would also probably put the car out of my price range.

Quality control (as in the manufacturers ability to assemble the car correctly as designed) so far is pretty good (no loose parts, no noises, nothing falling off, no missed stiches or fasteners). Most everything looks and works great and feels pretty solid. I think the dash is far more impressive than anything I've seen post "classic 900" in the GM era of SAAB and I see nothing better offered from competitors. In general, there are a lot boring, crappy, monoculture cars being made these days so there isn't much to choose from in this price range.

That said, based on past experience, however, I do hope that it holds up over time. ;) So far so good.
