I worked out the gear ratios once, comparing the 2.0T 6 speed from years back to the 5-speed. Gears one through three were very close, with the 5 speed being slightly wider spaced but not much. 4th was lower and six was higher (on the 6 speed) compared with 4th and 5th on the 5-speed. With Saab's wide, flat torque curve, plus the relatively high speed at red-line in 3rd, there's a very small real world benefit to the extra gear. Further, the 5 speed produced better 0-60 acceleration and better fuel economy, at least with the ratios they used in '03 when the car was launched. Therefore, the "Arc" model (probably with the 17" tire option) was the one they gave to the "independent testing service" that showed the car out-performing the comparable BMW 3 series at the time.
That said, the 6 speed is a far newer design (the 5 speed dates back to the 1986 9000) and may have a better shift feel. The shift knob, with the extra gear position showing, adds to the "coolness" factor. Anyway, the 6 speed is standard on the '07 2.0T cars along with the revised interior, and is unavailable on the '06 2.0T cars with the original interior. If you strongly prefer one interior over the other, that would certainly make the decision easy. If there is a substantial price difference and you don't care one way or the other about the interior trim, that would also make the decision for you. I don't see the extra gear ratio as being very important.
