Re: 2.0T 5 vs 6 spd manual Posted by Caarma [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 2.0T 5 vs 6 spd manual, jerryf, Fri, 17 Nov 2006 21:50:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I looked at the gear ratios of the 6 spd versus the 5 spd (including final drive) and figured out that although the 5 spd is better on the EPA highway cycle, (with an average speed of 48 mph), the 6 speed will spin the engine about 5% less rpm at the same vehicle speed, so it should get better fuel economy in real highway driving. That's the one issue I have with my 2006 9-3 SC 2.0 T manual, it spins too fast on the highway and this hurts fuel economy compared to an automatic version. It does well in the city though. On the new 6 spd tranny 5th gear will be nice for most passing, doubt you would need to downshift much more often.
My 2004 9-3 2.0 t rated at 20 city and 30 highway averaged about 1.5 mpg higher and a couple mpg higher than my 2006 9-3 SC 2.0 T in the real world even though the latter is rated at 22 city and 31 highway. The EPA highway cycle isn't very representative of the real world, especially since we now have 70 mph speed limits.
I would love to have that 6 spd put into my 9-3 SC so that I can keep the more unique interior and center mounted SID display.
