XM Radio Install

I want to install my XM radi over the next few days. No snow = spare time.
I've been told the fin is a dummy antenna since I don't have onstar and the nav unit. I've also been told that I should be able to use this antenna for my XM unit. Is this possible? Where would I find the unattached end of the antenna to hook to the unit?
I'm going to use the AUX in for the XM and switch between it and my ipod, but what about the power source? do I have to use the outlet in the dash or the centre console? I'm not sure if the cord will reach where I want to mount the radio. Is it not possible to wire it to a different power source?
Any ideas, input would be greatly appreciated.
