gas milage on new 9-3 combi

Hi,
I am the mostly happy owner of a new 9-3 SC (60th ann model with auto). It drives great and is very comfrtable and swift. I have only ~900 miles on it to date and they have been virtually all urban miles (with A/C on). But I have been dissapointed with the fuel milage - I have averaged 18-19 MPG on the first 3 tanks (actual measured via the pump is very similar to computer calculation). I got better milage with my old 9-5 (~19-20 in similar urban driving).
Is this an artifice of the newness of the engine? The 9-3 is an auto while the old 9-5 was a manual (but the 9-5 was rated 19 MPG urban and the 9-3 is rated 20) I don't think I have been driving all that differently. Would the low/wide tires of the ann version (like aero tires) make a difference?
thanks for any comments!
Tom
