I'm in almost exactly the same situation as Tom -- a generally happy new owner of a 2007 9-3 SC anniversary edition with a manual transmission, getting about 17 mpg. This is similar to (or slightly less than) what I used to get in my old Subaru with a 135 hp engine, in the same kind of driving. I am starting to think the low gas milage may be inevitable with the kind of driving I do -- lots of stop-and-go traffic in the city, with an average speed (according to the display on the dashboard) of about 15 mph. Whenever I drive the car at higher speeds (with less stopping and starting), the milage goes up.
