When interpreting the survey results from CR, its important to fully understand what is being reported. Black dot is somewhere around 3% of respondents noting a "problem" in the category surveyed. So if you see a black dot, 3 people out of 100 had a "problem". Compared to a camry or honda which might have 0 initial problems, there is a difference, but for many it may be just comparing two low numbers (both
cars are "reliable" but one is just a few clicks more reliable and is perhaps built under a more stringent quality control system that weeds out the clunkers that could be contributing to a few % that shouldn't have made it onto the dealers lot). The problem with the CR approach is that the buyer cannot discriminate between a 3% problem car and a 50% lemon model (both have black dots) so the approach has its limitations.

My '07 2.0T SS has been very reliable for the first 13k miles so far. My only complaint is that the 6sp transmission is sort of imprecise and notchy at lower RPMs (<3000)(to use the words of Road and Track) and doesn't work too well in cold weather until it warms up. That...I'm coming to learn is a "feature" that I've learned to adapt to. I'm also generally concerned about all the automatic computer crap that could create problems down the road and hearing of things like a fuel filter that can't be replaced w/o a gas tank replacement (geez) but so far so good. Based on the competition in the price range, I didn't see anything else that was worth buying and it is a nice looking (in/out) and fun car to drive.
