A minimum octane requirment is just what it says, the minimum. That does not mean you must run that grade. I would imagine mixing gasoline at the pump would be a little bit more trouble than it is worth. My only reccomendation is do not be an idiot like me. I used 87 grade and it caused my car to "knock" when I was trying to drive aggressive. Now I only use premium grade for a few reasons, mainly because it contains more detergents and cleaners to keep your fuel system running clean and it helps the preformance. If it were me, just run the premium rather than mixing the gasoline. And as far as justification goes, when gas was 1.00 per gallon and premium was 1.20, that was much more of a higher %increase that gas being 3.00 for low grade and 3.20 for premium.
