Steering Wheel Lock and Immobilizer failure Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Details are sketchy, but my brother-in-law did a front brake job on my sister's 2005 9-3SS today at his home. At the conclusion of the job the car would not start. Two messages appear in the SID - Steering Wheel Lock Fault and Immobilizer Failure.
My brother-in-law is a professional mechanic with a Tech-II - residing in his tool box at work - but not Saab specific software or training.
Any recommendaitons? I wasn't there, so I don't know the exact sequence of tasks he completed. He said he found a loose ground cable near the transmision and reconnected it. He also said he was fighting with the rotors for a while until he finally determined he was sold the wrong size. He is not sure if he moved something which activated the fault messages, but he is pretty disgusted right now.
I suggested to disconnect battery for 15 minutes to reset the computers, try fording the steering wheel in case the lock solenoid is jammed, and to make sure the battery is fully charged incase he left the key in thef ignition for hours while all this work was being planned and performed and the battery weakened. None of this helped.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
