Update on problem.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Steering Wheel Lock and Immobilizer failure, MI-Roger ![]() |
I heard from my sister today that her car mysteriously "fixed itself" during the day Monday while parked in my brother-in-law's Pole Barn.
My guess is that the stering wheel lock became jammed during the car's brake job when the car was jacked up one corner at a time and a wheel turned ever so slightly, which caused the stering column to move a minute amount. After being left undisturbed, the hydraulic pressures in the steering rack/system equalized over time and the steering colum unjammed itself so the solenoid could retract the pin.
The obvious concern is what happens when a driver is changing a flat tire on the side of the road? Should the key be left in the ignition to keep the steering lock deactivated so it cannot jam? I will have to read the Manual for my wife's 9-3Sc to see the recommended tire change practice for these cars.
