I have the same problem. Started a year ago while on a trip. Just driving along when it would nosedive. I read in another forum that it is common for an "e" reading if you leave the key in the ignition while fueling. This did help, but it returned so I must assume that there is more than one way to get an "e" on the gauge. I also tried a new gas cap as my dealer says the O.E.M. is not that tight after a while (which can also lead to the "check engine" making its nasty presence known, but the new cap did not work and now my gauge will only read from 3/4 tank down. Please post if you have to replace the pump as I would like to know if this is the only way out :-)
Thanx,
