It's a good thought but the OEM wheel/tire is a 235/45 ZR 18 and is too wide to fit under the cargo floor.
The widest that will fit is a 205 and if you look for one of those you'll qite soon find there's nothing at 18" and you're right back to the 205/55 VR 17 as the only available tire. Saab 17" wheels will fit the car (just barely over the front calipers) and the tire size is close enough to OEM OD to work and narrow enough to fit under the cargo floor.
So, that's why I'm interested in a 17" steel wheel for the 9-3 bolt pattern.
Anyway, long story, but without run-flats GM shouldn't do this. I blame GM because I don't think Saab would do such a thing if given a choice.
Just my 2 cents.
