...so I'm not sure you should blame GM necessarily. We researched this when I worked at GM, and in Europe, many other companies were already doing without a spare, (not just Opel which is GM of Europe). Us Product Planners tried to stop this, but there's really not much alternative when you push the envelope with performance and AWD. To have put run-flats would have also been considered a mistake by many. The Saturn SKY and Pontiac Solstice also just have inflator kits. I'm not sure which other manufacturer's vehicles are in the same boat. What's interesting is how few people know how to change their tire anyway, but you do need a tow if the flat is not repairable.
