O.K., here it is: I'm now looking at a 2004 9-3 Aero, Black w/gray/parch int., 39,800 mi., no warranty, asking price is $14,995, with a VERY nice allowance for my trade.
The car looks to be in very nice condition; there are several small scratches on the exterior, and the hood emblem is, of course, peeled off. The dealer says he'll take care of all those things. There is some peeling of the chead interior surfaces.
Problem 1: the dealer is just a roadside car place. He has nice cars and has been there for a long time, but there is no manufaturer affiliation. He seems legit, but you never know.
Problem 2: the car report (not Carfax) is clean as far as flood damage, accidents, etc., but the car was repossessed by Saab and sold at auction, where the dealer bought it. Also, it looks as though the previous owner did not use a synthetic oil. The sticker for the next oil change says 5W-40.
So, the questions are: do I trust this guy, and what are the potential problems if there was no synthetic oil for 39K miles?
