Excuse my ignorance..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Newest Dilemma, DH, Thu, 9 Oct 2008 18:05:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
At first I forgot which BB I was reading and thought this was a 9-5 Aero, the 9-5 engines have a sludging reputation (although I have 234,000+ miles on mine).
Does this car have the 2.0 litre engine with a separate brazed plate heat exchanger as an oil cooler? My wife's 2006 9-3 has this set-up but I am uncertain if this is standard on the 2003 thru 2005 9-3's. I also don't know if the 2004 Aeros used the 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine, or if the V6 was already in use by this time.
If this engine is so equipped, I would be less concerned whether synthetic oil was used, but concerned with whether the oil was changed regularly. The increased size of the oil sump on the 2.0 litre engine (6 litres vs 4 litres on the 9-5's), use of a water source heat exchanger for cooling the oil, and no PCV system problems are said to have eliminated any oil sludging problems in 9-3SS/SC/'Verts with the 4-cylinder engines.
