Wouldn't this trip a CEL? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Bitter cold temps and "gassy" smell from car..., Ron, Thu, 15 Jan 2009 05:41:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was thinking along the lines of a problem with the vapor recovery system due to temperatures. A failing/weak O2 sensor may be the cause also, but no CEL was displayed.
I will have to do a little digging tonight using my OBD-II reader. Perhaps a "Pending Code" is being stored that hasn't yet triggered the Check Engine Light because of the short run time of my wife's commute.
I didn't notice the smell at the tailpipe but rather in the closed garage after the car sat there for an hour. My wife did mention she smelled a gassy odor in the cabin on her way home, but didn't know if the odor source was her car or the car(s) she was following. My fist "sniff test" of our garage, done within 10 minutes of the car being shut-off and the door closed, was negative. Only later did the odor appear.
Thanks.
