actually they didn't need to replace the tensioner. The rattle noise is from the belt. They probably did the tensioner to get it covered under warranty since the belt is considered a wear item its not covered under the 4year/50,000 mile warranty. They will cover the belt due to tensioner failure. The belt gets a little streched and dry, and then they rattle. The good news is, when the car is out of warranty, this is a very inexpensive belt to replace (compared to other SAABs). I think we charge about $110 parts and labor. The belt is suppost to be replaced every 60,000 miles (part of the 60k service).
Even though these belts are sometimes noisy, I still haven't seen one fail. So its more of an annoyance issue.
