I was told by a Saab mechanic that the premature wear of the rear brakes on 9-3 is due to the rear brake bias used. The purpose of this higher rear brake bias is to prevent nose dive under braking; the rear brakes engage earlier so that the rear of the vehicle doesn't rise up.
Replaced the rear pads on my 2006 2.0t SportCombi at 22,000 miles; used Autozone Duralast Gold Ceramics, and they lasted approximately 110k miles, with much less dust than originals.
