I havn't done any 9-3 sport sedan starters yet at the dealership I work at.
All starter issues have ended up being the battery disconnect switch located on top of the battery B+ post. And they all give the symptom of a bad starter motor. There's also an issue back east and in the rust belt with corroded battery cables, but we haven't seen any of those were I work in Southern California.
2003 and 2004 used the same starter and the both superceed to 55556245.
I just checked SAAB IRIS part locator and it shows they have 5 of those starter in the SAAB East coast warehouse and 3 of them in the SAAB west coast warehouse. So I don't know why your having so much trouble getting a starter.
Are you sure it's not just the Technician thinks its the wrong starter because it looks differant then the starter he removed from the car (due to the supercession)
