Hi kids,
I have a 20 years edition 3-9 Aero Convertible. (2006)
The Canadian warranty ends next month, and I've been too busy to pay attention to the growing list of things that need attention.
Most concerning is the fairly random 'thunk' or 'thud' or 'jerk' the 6 speed auto makes - usually when shifting under low load. For example, driving at a continuous speed, when the road starts to incline.. transmission kicks down as usual, but lately it really bumps or thunks (there must be a word for this :) when it does. Same thing if it reaches a steady coasing speed, and upshifts to a higher gear. THUMP.
It's not just a little shifting thump, it's often enough and significant enough for passengers to say 'what the hell was that'.
It is happening with increasing frequency, and now occasionally happens when I put the hammer down and force a kickdown (used to be only on 'subtle' shifs.
On the other hand, 9 out of ten times it shifts briskly, no bump, no slip, as it always has. Used to be 19 out of 20 times. You get the idea.. it's there, it's getting worse, it's hard to duplicate.
This makes it hard to get covered by the dealer... as we all know, SAAB owners are all LIARS, according to warranty policy (at least in Canada) and hence anything they can't duplicate in a 5 minute road test doesn't really exist, and we get the polite 'couldn't duplicate customer complaint' which might as well say 'we don't believe you' :) Good luck trying to explain you're not stupid or making it up to get additional attention!
Anyhow, whining aside, I confess I love my SAAB - it's my 4th one, and possibly the best, but now there's less than a month of warranty left, and I'm getting worried. This is the first car I've kept off lease, and I don't know how 'smart' people handle the end of their warranty.
I'm hoping if one of good people can help me narrow down what's likely going on, I can explain it better, be taken more seriously, figure out what to tell them so they CAN duplicate it, etc.
Anyone? Similar problems? thoughts?
Beuller? Beuller?
Thanks!
