I have one that had 30 psi compression in all 4 cylinders. The chain was intact, but when I got the head off, all 8 intake valves had hit the pistons. It lined up on top dead center, but there was some springy slack in the chain and the tensioner plunger was moving in and out. I was able to remove the tensioner and put it all the way back in without resetting it so I think either the chain stretched to the limit or the tensioner failed. It's an automatic, so over revving is out. It does look like it may have missed a couple oil changes.
It's the kind of thing that makes me wonder if I should be recommending tensioners at 100k or so. This one had 111k. I doubt a chain could stretch that much without breaking. Has anybody else seen this?
