I've spent much time on other forums researching before purchasing those cars. For two of them (Trooper and Montero) what I found was that the "bad" reputation (rollovers and mechanical) seemed to be greatly exaggerated and I loved both of those vehicles. The Trooper especially was one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Now, with Saab, a few people I've spoken with have said they break down. I have no idea whether this is a fair characterization, which is why I'm asking. What I've gathered in this forum is that from 2005 on they seem like good cars.
I'm not trying to "dig up" only negative responses on Saab. Because there are so few of them purchased each year, it's difficult to get a sense of how happy their owners are. I'm well aware of the appeal of them as they appeal to me as well. This is why I'm shopping them.
Don't be offended that I'm asking questions. I appreciate your response. YOU would know exactly what to do if your Saab had an issue, I (not being a mechanic), especially with today's cars would be at a loss. This statement is absolutely true:
"Don't buy any modern car that rely on electronic technique if you want to avoid sudden problems."
The problem I have is that the only other option is to buy an old car with 100k on it..:(
