Does the few hundred pound weight differential between an automatic transmission versus manual make all the difference for fuel economy? The reason I ask is that most of the people I know who drive manuals drive them in such a way that they cannot be getting good fuel economy (they rev like an auto driver seldom does)- whereas the computer inside the automatic shifts at optimal points in theory. I don't get why manuals are considered more efficient - anyone know?
