It's a mess to figure out which one it should be.
Saab says 12755484 for manual transmission and 12803492 for Auto for the 03-04 9-3.
One of my sources cross over the first number to AL0833X and the second number to AL0830X and being for the 03-04 9-3.
My second source says that AL0833X is for 05 and up 9-3 which Saab says is 12757363 and AL0830X comes up as 12762730 also for 05 and up. And that second source says that your number AL0856X is for the 03-04 with manual transmission and cross it over to Saab number 12755484.
A third source agree with my first source that the AL0833X and AL0830X should be the one for an 03-04 9-3 with Man versus Auto.
So there you have it. It might be the right alternator and it might be the wrong one or it might be the right one but faulty?
Clear as mud, eh?
The cable might not be that bad but what you should do is to check for voltage drop when you have the engine running and circuits loaded with full blast on A/C and all lights on.
Set the voltage meter probe on alternator bolt or nut (not cable) and the other probe on battery positive post. You should have very little numbers displayed on the volt meter. If you see 50 or 100 mV or more, the cable or lug ring is bad but I don't think you will see that.
