If a ball joint it loose/worn, it can definitively change the front geometry and combined angles of the front end and causes excessive tire wear. Would imagine both sides would be effected.
The front ball joints (lower only) are part of the control arm and only sold as a complete arm. These are usually more expensive but less labor to change. Some aftermarket companies make replacements but usually are poor quality in comparison to the OE part. Saab pn12796013 lists at $379.
