All depending on how the work was done and pads and rotors used, it can be different feel to the pedal.
The metal noise might be that the brake shield is rubbing on the back of rotor and can easily be fixed pushing the shield inwards slightly.
If hardware is installed incorrectly, it can give a soft pedal feel,
But also if the old pads were the genuine soft dusty pads and now they used ceramic or metallic pads, that would make the pedal feel different.
These pads on the picture, even though for the old 9-3 and the 9-5, show how the surface can be different of the friction material and they act a little bit different too.
It is also a time to bed in the pads while driving so it might change after some time.
