Car in question; 2003 Arc sedan, 6 speed. Relatively new to me. My college age son is the driver.
Put new Kumho Ecsta tires last fall. Seemed like a middle of the road tire with good recommendations. Also had the car aligned, but my son did not get the alignment printout.
After 10K miles, front tires are about half worn. Seems like a lot of wear. Rears are pristine. Went back for another alignment, and got the printout.
First, car drives true and handles fine. Can't compare to much else (performance wise), but similar sturdy feel like our other older saabs.
The toe was off slightly from spec on front right and left rear. The tweaked them slightly, but the following are the results:
front spec is 0.10 to 0.18 degrees, total toe 0.20 to 0.36
FL 0.18 degrees FR 0.15 degrees total toe front 0.33 degrees.
rear spec is 0.08 to 0.16 degrees, total toe 0.16 to 0.32
RL 0.15 degrees RR 0.14 degrees Total toe rear 0.28 degrees.
My question: I know the toe is in spec, but on the far extremes. What is a reasonable number for good performance and good tire wear? From what I've read, this setup might give easier steering but lousy wear. I'm looking for a number to give to the shop and say align the toe to ...
Thanks for any suggestions.
