This is probably a bad case to use as a example of the norm. I leased a new 2003 9-3 SS Arc 6 speed in 2003 on my 40th birthday. Traded in a 1995 NG900 5 speed with 53,000 miles on it at the time (great car). Bought out the 2003 9-3 at lease end at a lower negotiated price. It only has 37,400 miles on it since I have been working from home since around 2012. All I have needed to spend was on Mobil 1 oil changes- first one was "free" I believe and then perhaps four or five after that. Also one set of tires, which are now due to be replaced due to the beginning of some dry-rotting. That's it, other than some minor warranty items just before it ran out. Had the exterior emblems replaced and some door rattles taken care of under warranty. Just purchased and replaced AMP1 under the driver's seat, only because I damaged it with a careless jump one time. Did not disconnect the battery cables in the Saab prior to jumping that one time. 13 speaker sound system sounds great once again. The car still runs like a top as the saying goes. I also added a BSR PPC Stage 1 tune back in 2005. Considered adding a sport exhaust along with BSR PPC Stage 2 years ago, but truthfully the car has plenty of power with Stage 1.

Buy the "best" car you can find and IMO I'd stay with the 4 cylinder as far as ease of maintenance goes. However there are a number of people here with the V6 who have had a good ownership experience. From what I have read, certain repair jobs can be more costly with the V6.
