Nice to see a 9-3SS staying on the road. I do not think there are many left, especially in the US. Very rarely see one in N. Calif.
Hope it is a good one. Mine is perfect at 210K mostly gentle miles on the original clutch. I *think* this is an Aisin (Toyota) transmission, so pretty bulletproof (unlike my C900) so you should be ok. I am sure your mechanic will feel for bearing play where he can and for chips etc. laying around inside.
Do think there is a near zero chance of the OEM suppliers selling that new inventory, so it may not hurt to make a lowball offer for one with them too.
I did use the expensive OEM fluid when I did the drive shafts maybe 25K ago. The real experts on here will probably know how important this is but due to my paranoia about my C900 transmission I did not want to fool around. I did some flushing on mine too with the same fluid.
If you are using a Saab mechanic he will probably have some input on what to do about the clutch. I think these are dual mass flywheel, so it gets expensive if you do the whole thing. I would for sure do at least the slave. If not a Saab specialist I think there is a priming process before it goes back in the car that needs to be followed. I would also do the drive shaft seals and input shaft seal. Not sure how hard the shift seal is but probably worth doing too.
Am assuming the external part where the cables attach is what broke. That seems very odd.
