I have a 2004 9-3 Aero convertible with the 6-speed manual and I don’t believe it has had any transmission problems. It has had a number of owners, including a friend, and the records that came with it don’t indicate any transmission work. The Saab master tech I take it to likes the 5-speed better, but I don’t think it has so much to do with reliability. That 4-cylinder engine seems pretty good and they do seem to last. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the convertible being built in Austria, because I would think they would use the same transmission as the Swedish 9-3s. For twenty years old it shifts very nicely.
