Update- I forgot to mention that in my case this is an intermittant problem. This morning I had no crunching on up or down shifts and the temps were around 38 F. Even when the crunching is heard it is somewhat quiet- not like the noise you will hear on a blown shift (not that I do that, lol). I think it is worse when the temps are extremely low, even sometimes after the car has warmed up. For instance, I recall hearing it even when the car is warmed up when the temps are 15 F and -5 F with wind chill. Even at its best the shifter is somewhat resistant to fast action, although my '95 900S was this way also. I'm not sure what the current TSB mentions on this but who knows... it could end up being a lubricant issue. Alldatadiy.com will not have data for the '03 9-3 SS until this June so I can't check the TSB's.
