I have been lurking on this board for some time as a potential owner of a new 9-3SS, and now my very first posting turns out to be a rant. I test drove a 9-3 SS recently and experienced the cheap look and feel of the interior to be a major issue that, all by itself, was sufficient to seriously dampen the appeal of an otherwise impressive car.
I'm just one customer and don't represent a price point all by myself, but how much could it possibly add to the bottom line simply to upgrade the plastics and switchgear just to the level of an Accord or Camry? That by itself would go a long way. This is essentially the "face" of the car to the driver and front passenger while driving, so why did they build a car competitive with Audi and BMW and then drop the ball on such an easy but important finishing touch? I know Saab is supposed to be a bit more austere than, say, Audi, but it's still a European sport sedan, not a Cavalier, so spend (and charge) a few extra bucks on the interior to take credit for it.
