I don't know if we can compare pre 9-3ss SAAB to your prior experience with them, i.e., through the 9-5. It looks like the 9-3ss heralds the extinction of SAAB as we knew it -- henceforth mostly as a marketing name peddling GM products, albeit with differences in appearance or cosmetics.

The 9-3ss / Malibu / Grand Am. The 9-7 / TrailBlazer / Envoy. The next 9-5 / ? / ? And if future SAAB's have off-the-shelf GM switches, then how SAAB switches used to last will be irrelevant ... but how GM products fare in Consumer Reports & J.D. Powers will be (and for the past three decades GM products have invariably ranked poorly).

And no, I'm not upset that GM owns SAAB. But I AM very disappointed, but not surprised, that GM is imposing its culture of low quality and corner-cutting on SAAB. Name one quality domestic GM nameplate. Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac etc. -- all crap compared to the Europeans, much less the Japanese. So why should we expect that GM would make an exception for SAAB?
