Yeah, seen the Porsche SUV... they are selling a suprising amount in Australia, considering the rediculous price ($AU130,000 for the "standard" and $AU205,000 for the turbo!). Oh, and they are ugly. America's obsession with SUV's worries me. What worries me more is that Australia is following suit. I have recently just purchased a 9-3 (rather then a NG900) because of it's side airbags. I need as much chance as I can if I get hit by a bloody SUV / 4WD.

I understand that car companies must change to stay in the market place. Ford Australia and Holden (GM) have both created new "softroaders" or SUV's as you may wish to call them, recently. My point is that Saab was once known for creating UNIQUE cars. I just think it is a shame that it is necessary for them to resort to such pathetic badge engineering to sell cars. I actually think it is even more pathetic that the public are willing to actually buy them, considering that the 9-2 and 9-7 are actually more Subaru and GM (Chevy I believe) respectivly, then they are Saab. I also think it rather interesting that Saab will not attempt to sell the 9-2 or 9-7 in any other country except the USA (although Saab's largest market is the USA).

I don't believe the 9-2 and 9-7 will be successful anyway. The attempts at such silliness in Australia in the 80's and 90's failed totally. At one point, you could buy a Toyota Camry badged as a GM Holden Apollo; a GM Holden Commodore badged as a Toyota Lexen, A Ford Falcon Ute badged as a Nissan, a Nissan Pintara badged as a Ford Corsair. The only real success story was Ford Australia rebadging Mazda 323's and 626's as Ford Lasers.

And, um, just for the interest of any from the USA reading.... every time Ford Australia imports an American Ford... they can't sell them to save their lives. We have tried both the Taurus and Mondeo on for size in the last decade. Strange cars, BTW, truly ugly. Oh, and you can have the Chrysler Neon (Dodge Neon in the USA?) back.... they keep falling apart over here. :-) Smile everyone!
