I recenlty fixed a the squeaking noise coming from my ACC Interior temperature sensor. After popping out one of the Heated seat buttons, and a plastic cubby that used to be an ashtray, I was able to remove the ACC Sensor within a couple of minutes. Low and behold it has a magnetically driven fan on it and it squeaked like crazy. The dealer wanted $82 for a new one. Instead I went to my local junkyard and got a spare one incase anything I was about to do, ruined the already squeaking one.
First, on my sensor, I carefully tried spraying the shaft of this teeny fan with spray grease, of course it went everywhere and the the fan ceased working entirely. I then sprayed the entire unit with some electrical contact switch cleaner to remove the all the grease and let it dry.
While that was drying I tried the junyard switch. It also ran, but squeaked. I sprayed it also with the contact switch cleaner and it ran a little quieter. I then carefull dabbed a toothpick into some teflon lubricant and placed one drop onto both ends of the fan shaft. The fan was now whisper silent.
On my original fan after drying worked again but still squeaked. It turned out that the fan itself had slid on its own shaft and was actually rubbing another part. After careful dis-assembly, I moved the fan on its shaft about 1/64 of an inch and it no, longer scraped. I re-assembled and dabbed the teflon on the shaft and now I have two working ACC Sensors.
If you shut off your car and continue to hear a fan noise coming from the dash, try this fan fix. I bet now I could remove it and relube it in less than 10 minutes.
Good luck.
