Sludging that bad should not occur with high quality oil and no coolant contamination. I removed my valve cover at 35K miles to retorque the head. There was ZERO sludge, none, it was absolutely prestine. Of course I use M1 and change every 6K miles and I have done this for years with many cars. My 1990 Miata was absolutely prestine at 100K miles when I changed the timing belt, I was pretty damn impressed. My motorcycle (about 36K miles air cooled engine) has no sludge whenever I adjust the valve. (6K mile changes M1 as well). On a turbo car, Saab's 10K dino oil interval is very iffy IMHO, maybe with Saab spec oil, there are some additives that help. Using dino oil on any turbo engine is asking for trouble IMHO.
