my car just died while driving...

This happened when I took a right turn and try to accelerate and felt no power. I looked down and saw my instrument panel black (this was little after 6pm) and I realized I was in deep trouble. I coasted to side of the road and pulled over. I still had power steering. I turned the key off. After my antenna lowered, I tried to restart my car and there was no response back. Only thing happened was my antenna moved up, interior and head light came on, but there was no audible sound. No click, not a sound of trying to turn over, etc. I didn't think it was a D.I.C. as the sign didn't indicate it, but I asked Jeremy R to help me go get a spare D.I. and replaced it to confirm it was not the cause.
Does anybody experienced this? what might cause this sudden death? It was almost like an UFO encounter story you hear on TV....
Help me at least get an idea of what might caused this and any possible solutions. I'm planning on towing it tomorrow afternoon if there are no quick solutions.
Thanks in advance
