Even though I haven't seen that problem with a selector switch I guess it is possible that it has shorted out in some ways.
I would check all the wires though for short to ground on the out going side of the switch before throwing a new one in.
It would suck big time if the new switch is also burning the fuse.
If they have a selector switch in stock they only need to plug the new one into the harness and try it without even mounting it on the car.
My suspicion though is that it might be a wire somewhere that is touching ground and when the gear selector switch move and completes the shorted out circuit, it blows the fuse.
I hope they have a full wiring diagram of your car so that they can follow the wires.
